NEWS ITEM: Mystery Surrounds Death of Shelby T. Triplett

Mystery still surrounds the death of Mr. Shelby T. Triplett, of Garfield,
this county, who was found unconscious in an alley in Louisville two weeks
ago and who died Saturday week at the City Hospital. Murder is the theory
advanced by the Louisville police and they are at work on the case. The
evening before Mr. Triplett was found unconscious he had gone to Louisville
from his home at Garfield to dispose of a large quantity of tobacco. He had
sold a portion of it but had not received the money. He spent the day about
the warehouses and it is the supposition that while on his way to a hotel
after dusk he was assaulted by some one who knew that he disposed of
considerable tobacco. At the hospital Mr. Triplett was operated on, but
without effect. It was found that some of his intestines had been ruptured.
The body was brought to Garfield on last Wednesday and buried there. Mr.
Triplett was the junior member of the firm of Richardson & Triplett, tobacco
buyers at Garfield, and was widely known and popular throughout the county.
Besides extensive dealings in tobacco he was a prosperous farmer. Mr.
Triplett leaves a wife, one daughter, Mrs. John F. Morton, of this city, and
five sons. Mr. Morton, son-in-law of Mr. Triplett, was summoned to
Louisville by the police the latter part of last week to assist in ferreting
out the case. Mr. Morton says that only about ten dollars were missing from
the person of Mr. Triplett when he was found, which was about all the money
he had in his pockets. The deceased was fifty-five years of age and a Mason.

Cause of Death: Complications of childbirth

Notes for Nancy Texas (Nannie) Beatty:

OBITUARY: A Sudden Death

While reveling in the happy pleasures of the Christmas holidays, thinking
little of sorrow or trouble, the news flashed over our community last Monday
morning that death's harvester was yet busy in gathering his sheaves, and as
is so often the case, one of the best of our community was summoned to cross
the river in the person of Mrs. Ed Triplett. Her illness was of short
duration, and her death was due to acute pneumonia. Every effort was made to
save her but all in vain. Mrs. Triplett was the daughter of Uncle Frank
Beatty and was born near West Clifty, Grayson County, Kentucky, January 28,
1857. She was married to Robert Hall October 16, 1881. Her first husband
having died, she married Ed Triplett, January 10, 1894. She was laid to rest
in the family burying ground December 27, 1904, surrounded by relatives and
friends. She was a devoted member of the Methodist Church and was never
happier than when sitting in her pew, and drinking in the gospel truths she
loved so well. To the bereaved ones it is a sad stroke, but may their lives
all be like hers and as triumphant in the end. She's gone from earth from
sin and woe, She's free from toil and care, She's heard her Savior's welcome
voice, And joined him in the air.

Notes for Sarah Elizabeth Daugherty:

OBITUARY: Sarah Elizabeth Triplett

Sarah Elizabeth Daugherty was born near Howe's Valley, Hardin County,
Kentucky, Sept. 4, 1860. Departed this life Jan. 18, 1926, age 65 years, 4
months and 14 days. She was married to E. H. Butler Jan. 10, 1882: To this
union was born two children, Mrs. Thos. Gilpin and Mrs. John Bennett, who
survive. Her husband preceded her in death 26 years, after which she lived a
widow seven years. She was married to E. F. Triplett October 10, 1906. She
also reared three orphan children besides her step daughter. She professed
faith in Christ in early life and joined the M. E. Church, South at Custer.
She lived a devout life. She bore her suffering which was great with much
patience, then a little while before she passed away by continual prayer and
holding on to God, by those who loved her, her terrible suffering ceased and
she slipped away from us. Her Savior and all the beautiful angels carried
her and placed her on the golden shore among loved ones who had gone on
before and we know among all the splendor she heard the gentle voice of the
loving Saviour say, "well done thou good and faithful servant enter, into
the joys of the Lord." She was a devoted wife, a patient loving mother,
always looking on the bright side of life and trying to make others happy
about her and if all the good deeds done by her were written down, we are
sure it would take many volume to hold them. The funeral services were
conducted by her pastor, Rev. D. D. McAdams and our hearts were comforted
when he read, "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth;
yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their
works do follow them." Then the choir sang softly "Asleep in Jesus." And we
laid her to rest in the Custer Cemetery.
