Richard Ashcraft

Richard Ashcraft was an Indian Scout during the Revolution, enlisted in Pa.   According to tradition he knew the Indian dialect and customs and was renowned as an Indian fighter.  The Ashcrafts had a Fort or Station in Fayette Co, Pa.   After Richard's death in 1792 his widow Elizabeth Carr moved to Meade County in 1799.  Some of her children were already in Meade County.  Her brother John Carr was in KY in 1780-81 with the Wells party, surveyed around Doe Run and wintered there.   He was an early settler in Meade County
