Thomas E. “Ed” Hobbs, 91, of Flaherty, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

Mr. Hobbs was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Flaherty. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army where he received the Purple Heart. Mr. Hobbs was also a lifetime farmer within the Flaherty community.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Hobbs; a sister, Cecilia; and his parents, Herbert and Vallie Hobbs.

Survivors include three sons, Mike Hobbs and his wife, Katie, of Chicago and Eddie Hobbs and his wife, Cathy, and Tommy Hobbs and his wife, Annette, all of Flaherty; six daughters, Barbara Muncy and her husband, John, of Flaherty, Peggy Schweinhart and her husband, Rick, Mary Kaye Hobbs, Jean Schulz and her husband, Bill, and Angela Morris and her husband, Chris, all of Louisville, and Nina Chism and her husband, Herbie, of Brandenburg; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Hobbs of Flaherty.

A Mass of Christian burial was Friday, June 10, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Flaherty with the Rev. A.L. Chandler officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Coffey & Chism Funeral Home in Vine Grove handled arrangements and hosted a prayer service Thursday night.
